Solution: The final logo is simple, friendly, and hints at the concept of home energy reduction. Preliminary brand concepts explored visual style and messaging to company's product for home owners.

Human Rights Watch is a non-profit organization that investigates and reports human rights abuses around the world. This logo and identity system proposal for Human Rights Watch responds to an international logo design competition sponsored by the organization. After selecting another logo in the design competition, HRW subsequently implemented my logotype recommendations in the workmark currently in use today.

Challenge: Create a name and identity for an initiative gathering voices in support of philanthropy.
Solution: To recruit members who are busy influencers in their communities, the identity is straight-forward and credible. Multicolored squares represent vibrant diversity. The shapes and colors lend themselves to bold application in stationery, recruitment collateral and even an animated introduction video.

Shortly after the park opened and the campaign began, we found this couple enjoying an evening picnic “on the banks”. We have a strong suspicion that he was using the occasion to propose.
Challenge: Strengthen brand positioning of a health care data consulting services firm through identity refresh and website redesign.
Solution: Consulting service offerings are presented concisely by segment, responding to unique needs of each. New website and collateral information sheets are unified through simplified wordmark and naming conventions, expanded brand color palette, “XML” themed design elements, and process diagrams.

The California State University hired me to prepare graphic identity guidelines to unify diverse identities of the 23 campuses and build recognition among California residents and prospective students. A key to the design solution was the invention of the CalSphere, a multifaceted object representing interconnected campuses, unified at the center by an administrative core. This symbol infuses all aspects of the identity, including stationery, photography, report covers, brochures, posters, and the web site.

While employed with this landscape architecture and urban planning firm in Los Angeles, California, I developed new identity concepts. This mark incorporates the letters MDP into a sophisticated emblem which can be interpreted as architectural columns, diagonally crossing city streets, or even a stylized shrub. Essential is the need for the mark to work on CAD drawings and presentation boards; this mark meets the challenge.
